Ruby Aldridge after Costume National, Paris, FW 2012 – 13
Ruby Aldridge is bad ass. She is one of the only models who’s style doesn’t really divert from being ” I just picked this up off my boyfriends floor” cool and yet is still always really exciting to shoot. She always wears old denim, rocks a dad belt, wears lots of long chains, and is often sporting an old/ slouchy Tshirt. Also, let’s just discuss that she is reading Stephen King’s The Shinning… AND… last time we met in Paris she was listening to Ween on a WALKMAN… like I said, bad ass.

I just had a big Great Gatsby-themed birthday bash on a yacht in Sydney Harbour!
My best friend and my boyfriend somehow managed to organise the entire party from LA and London respectively. Somehow they pulled it off and kept it a surprise.
All I was told was that on December 22, I should wear a Great Gatsby-inspired dress and be ready by 5pm. I have always loved the glamour of the 1920s, having often channelled the era when I worked as a model.
Knowing that I wanted to wear white, I went on a hunt through all the London vintage stores. But after finding nothing but hilarious 80s wedding dresses, I ended up feeling less Daisy Buchanan and more Muriel’s Wedding.
Luckily, Australian designer Willow came to my sartorial rescue with the most gorgeous floor-length, sheer dress which was perfect. My boyfriend, understanding my near obsession with Maison Michel, gave me the most divine headband made of pearls, coral and beads by the designer see here. I wore it with gardenias we picked from the garden – they smelled like heaven.
The evening was filled with my favourite champagne flowing, gorgeous food and cakes, a beautiful sunset and dancing that went well into the early morning. I was surrounded by my favourite people who were dressed to perfection in 1920s threads, with some of the handsome men going so far as to style a perfect moustache for the evening!
It was one of the best evenings of my life and the perfect way to begin the new year.
There is just something about London girls… especially the fashion girls.
It’s the hard exterior edge juxtaposed with the pure ‘English rose’ beauty – something about this balance is perfect and like no where else. When people ask me who I most love to shoot, I always say the young fashion girls in London.

If there is one thing I love about street style, it is seeing how different girls interpret the same pieces in vastly different ways. Remember last week when I posted the photo of Ezgi for my a girl a day series? Can you believe that Elena is wearing the same Marni x H&M jacket?! It looks SO different. Well obviously IT looks the same, although how the two styled it is so vastly different… and that, in a (very loose) nut shell, is why I love doing this!
Elena basically has the kind of style that I always try to emulate. She is super polished, classic, but with a gorgeous little twist and can mix high street with designer so you never know what is what. Oh and she is probably the only other girl who loves hats/ headbands as much as I do… LOVE x

My friend Peony Lim, has a style all of her own – and I love it.
I have been snapping Peony for a few seasons for Vogue.com and Glamour and each season I love how her style develops every season. She does not follow any trends and I have never seen her with the latest ‘it’ bag that all the girls are wearing. She is always doing her own fabulous, uber-chic thing, to the beat of her own drum… a la this 70′s Yves Saint Laurent smoking suit… and that’s why I absolutely adore her.
Oh, and did I mention that on top of this she is also an incredible cook (hello cakes galore), has a wardrobe, bf and manners to die for (all equally important in my opinion) and says exactly what she is thinking at all times (i.e. “Candice you are being rather bossy!” said with a gorgeous smile when I ask her to walk continuously back and forth down a side street in Paris…)
All these qualities make for a winning combination!
